Back on the upgrade process for demo.ardee.com to make sure there are no major problems before upgrading all client and other portal websites.

  • Start website in IIS
  • browse to website and observe upgrade process
    • running in RDP session and it seems to be taking a long time 6:05 - 6:13 - new wizard opens, I choose Custom
      • glad I did - I forgot the object qualifier that exists on all the database objects - added demo as object qualifier
      • script is now installing database scripts and objects - not sure what this is installing, but I hope it is only upgrading what is already there - not a big deal if it is not, this is just a demo site anyway. My anxiety confirms why I am doing this on my demo site first!
    • received FAILURE 400 - Thread was being aborted.
      • Will check web.config to see if the object qualifier got written - yes it did
      • remove /Install/InstallWizard.aspx from Address line and try again - brought the home page right up.

Hmmmm. . . .

Go logon to website ???#&*%@???

Seems that there is something amis! I can not log on!

Checking web.config - found that the encryption and decryption keys were not the same as before! Seems that without the object qualifier, DNN assumed new install and tried to reinstall the database objects. Since they exist, an error occured and the above message was generated?

Modify the web.config and replace keys with old key values.

Browse to the site again.  The upgrade page displays stating that the database is at version 4.4.0 and it is upgrading to 4.5.0. Executing script 4.4.1 generated an error. Continue with Click Here To Access Your Portal link. All appears ok.

Try login again. Success! Get new message about host account not being secure. Using default password! That is ok on this demo.ardee.com site. I want people to be able to use this site to test and make sure it will work for their particular situation.

Check Host Settings to see what version is displayed.  Version states 4.5.0. Upgrade success!
